Totally 80s (See Jane Wear)
Equipment top c/o (similar), Zara jeans (similar), J Crew heels (sold out but similar), 3.1 Phillip Lim bag, KW sunglasses |
Ever feel like you grew up in the wrong decade? I was born in the mid-80s, grew up in the 90s (and don’t get me wrong, I loved it), but always felt like I would’ve thrived in a Bret Easton Ellis-era novel. It just seems like it makes sense; I love Wham (and everything related to George Michael), the Smiths, Hall & Oates, and my flat hair could probably use a perm. Plus, I feel like this outfit, with its acid gray and faded black tones, is a throwback to the decade where I belong.
I dont know about anything else, but i do love this outfit!
Oh that lovely bag! the outfit is great too!!

I totally wish I grew up in a different decade! Like you, I was born in the mid-80s and grew up in the 90s. I believe our TV shows were the bomb, but in terms of style, I have to throw up a little bit if I see another Delia's catalogue, pair of platform shoes, or one of those "tattoo" choker necklaces. Haha!
Love those jeans.

I love your outfits and how accesible but stylish they are. So great that you live in Chicago and have similar weather to us here in Michigan.

Love the outfit and I totally agree with you! I'm a nineties kid but I've always had the desire to be young in the 60s.

George Michael fell from (the passenger side) his car on the M1 (a motorway in the UK) over the weekend… He's in hospital at the moment and there hasn't been much other information to come out. I love Wham and GM too. Oh and your handbag 🙂
Adore the tie-front blouse & that gorgeous bag. Lovely styling!
your bag is amazing!!

As a child of the 80's, I can tell you that you're pulling out the best aspects of it. What you're not recalling are the pegged jeans, double popped collars, frosted lipstick and lace trimmed bike shorts worn out in public. I look back at photos and think, "thank GOD the internet wasn't what it is now…" I wouldn't have wanted to have that documented! 🙂 As an aside, I've been on the fence about that bag for ages…does it bother you that it's not lined? I'm scared of something leaking and ruining the leather – because otherwise it's perfect.
@Jen – it really doesn't bother me! It took a bit to get used to but I use it for work (and pile tons of crap in it) and it works better (for me, at least) when there's a lot of stuff in it. Hope this helps.
PS Oh I remember "the French cuff" which my older siblings taught me when I was in kindergarten…long live peg leg jeans! 🙂
Thanks @Anna…that does make sense. I'm a mom of two, so I have to tote around some caustic items (hello, diapers). I might have to buy it for myself and put it into a "WITHOUT KIDS" zone.
On another note, I follow you on Instagram and think I went to college with your brother…Hillsdale? Small world!
@Jen – yep, my brother, Blue, and sister, Sarah, both went to Hillsdale…definitely a SMALL world!
Love this outfit! The skinny jeans are great.
