Oversized Biker Jacket + Top 10 Best Lifetime Movies

I thought I’d spice this post up by sharing with you some of my favorite Lifetime Movie Network films.  I’ve been obsessed with Lifetime movies for as long as we’ve had cable (we didn’t get cable TV until I was in high school).  They’re a little cheesy, somewhat predictable, but I love them and I’ll shout it from the rooftops.  The true indicator of a Lifetime movie is that it’s so bad, it’s good.  If you’re more of a Hallmark Channel kind of gal, Lifetime movies have a little more edge.  I love Hallmark holiday films (also see: so bad, they’re good) but Lifetime has always had my heart.  Lifetime Network has definitely grown up and changed with the times (um, YOU on Sunday nights is downright racy), but I can always count on them for some solid entertainment.  In the thriller LMN genre, there’s always a twist at the 1 hr 50 minute mark (just a heads up–that’s how they keep you engaged until the bitter end). Also, the best friend usually dies (sorry).

As you will see below, my favorites are the ones that are loosely based on a true story, rather than the biography-esque flicks. Do you have any favorites?  Let me know in the comments (so I can DVR it)!

Dead at 17 Two rich brothers who always wear turtlenecks (is that supposed to signal a villain or something? If so, I’m screwed.) basically kill anyone who might get them in trouble, but don’t worry, they get theirs.

No One Would Tell (OLD SCHOOL ALERT) – Ok, not actually a LMN movie but it’s still played on that channel quite a bit.  It was a 1996 made for TV movie with huge stars (at the time): Fred Savage and Candace Cameron.  It centers around domestic violence and it’s excellent.  (Disclaimer: If you grew loving The Wonder Years, you’ll probably hate Fred Savage after this film.)

Drew Peterson: Untouchable – Let’s give it up for Rob Lowe who really deserved an Oscar for his performance in this.  Best line of the movie: “I’m untouchable, bitch.” (Not really untouchable now that you’re in jail, are ya, Drew?)

Double Daddy – Teen pregnancy alert – in fact, there’s two!  One teenage boy impregnates two girls mere months apart.  Of course his parents blame the girls…eye roll.  Also, the women in these films are also wayyyyy too forgiving.

A Deadly Adoption – For the sole fact that Will Ferrell and Kristin Wiig are in a Lifetime Movie, this makes the list.  But also, it’s amazing.  The fact that they both signed up for this movie just solidifies the fact that these movies are cinematic masterpieces…or in the least, guilty pleasures that everyone loves to watch.

Dead on Campus – Imagine my disappointment when my sorority didn’t have the creepy initiations that I had seen from all the Lifetime Movies!  But also, these girls are savage–someone always ends up dead, soooo watch your back.

Co-ed Call Girl – “Mother May I Sleep With Danger?” gets all the love but Co-ed Call Girl is its underrated cousin.  And like a true pioneer, Tori Spelling nails the ‘high-end, fast life college escort’ plot line more than all the other LMN movies (seriously, there are a ton…Sugar Daddies and Babysitter’s Black Book are also amazing)

HOLIDAY LIFETIME MUST-SEES

A Gift Wrapped Christmas – This one is only a couple years old but it has my heart because the protagonist is a personal shopper who falls in love with a work-obsessed, single dad, widower and helps him find the meaning of Christmas (duh–literally every holiday plot line).  If it’s on, I WILL watch it.  Even my mom has been like, “why are you always watching this?”

Dear Santa – Crystal, a rich, party girl, moves in on a single-dad widower (are we sensing a theme here) after she finds his daughter’s note to Santa.  Basically, there’s a little backlash but they eventually find the real meaning of Christmas (see: romantic love, which is actually not the meaning, but Lifetime thinks so).  Fun fact: Jason Preistley directed this film.

A Christmas Wedding First of all, Sarah Paulson stars in this movie which is proof that all actors have to start somewhere.  Next, everything that can possibly go wrong in this movie does and it’s a little infuriating but you can’t stop watching.  And in the end, they get married and find the true meaning of Christmas (cue: laugh/aww track).

This holiday season, kick back, get the apps/drinks out, and watch a few one night with your girlfriends; I promise you will laugh and have the best time ever (and drinking every time they say Christmas will make it even more fun).
