How to Stick to a Work Out (See Jane Sweat)

If you follow me on Instagram, you might’ve seen my plea for workout help.  I decided last week that I couldn’t continue down my road of skinny-fat and for general health purposes, it’s time to get back in the workout saddle.  For context (I’m just going to put it all out there), I am not very athletic BUT at the same time, I’m not totally inept.  I dabbled in sports for years but you know what, I was never good enough to stick with it.  I WAS an avid horseback rider, though (started riding as a 5 year old).  My body type is naturally thin–I like to say willowy but my family has always called me lanky.  However, I have no natural muscle tone.  I hear my friends complain about how certain exercises make them ‘bulk up’ and I can relate in no way.  I would like some muscle, some tone, and some more energy overall, please!  Anyway, I started a tone-up/barre hybrid class last week before the kids wake up and so far so good; but I’m three classes down and I actually want to stick with it so I asked the masses to give me their best tips and I want to share them with you!

  • Schedule your class ahead of time–it forces you to stick with it due to cancellation fees.
  • Take before photos and take another photo once a week to look at your progress.
  • Bring a friend (or two) – you force each other to be accountable.
and the #1 tip I received….
  • Work out in the morning.  It’s so much easier to get it over with and provides an extra burst of energy for the day!
Any other tips you can share?  I’d love to hear them!  Here’s to building muscle.
