History of Stripes

Stripes are my favorite pattern.  Solids, polka dots and florals may come and go, but for me, a good stripe is forever.  There’s something about that straight line and contrasts of color that make them eternally stylish and they go with just about anything.  There are striped tops I’ve had in my closet for over a decade; if that’s not lasting power, I don’t know what is.  Centuries ago, stripes were originally sewed into clothing to identify criminals (see: jailbird) because they catch the eye.  In the 60s, the stripe was worn in fashion as a form of rebellion.  Decades later, every basic b wears them on the daily (myself included); life really does come full circle.

(Also, remembering 9/11 today.  In some ways it feels like it was just yesterday that I was just a 16 year old in AP History class but when watching footage on TV, it looks like a lifetime ago.)
