Before + After: Our Living Room Fireplace Mantel #thisoldtudor
I originally didn’t intend to change the mantel in the living room of #thisoldtudor. I liked the contrast of the dark wood against the whitewall. But the more we lived with it, the more I realized it was just too small for the room. The mantel is a focal point of any room ad our living room is quite large (24′ x 16.5′) and I realized it wasn’t doing its job bringing the room together. I talked with my Havenly designer about it (she helped design this room) and she agreed that building a grander mantel would really complete the room. I couldn’t agree more and the mantel finally feels like it belongs in the room.
What we did:
I worked with our contractor to find a carpenter to build what we wanted. It was awesome – the carpenter set up shop on our patio and built the mantel and installed right on the spot…and it took about a day. Then, a painter came in and painted the mantel Benjamin Moore ‘white dove’ to match our molding and baseboards. I left the marble surround because it would’ve been a lot more expensive to replace and I like the beige now that the fireplace is white!

Beautiful! What color are your walls? Want to paint mine white but there are so many white options!
The walls and trim are Benjamin Moore ‘white dove’ – it’s a great white that is warm, but not yellow 🙂
This is a fantastic list of ideas! I very like it!
