Demure (See Jane Wear)
Equipment tie-front top (c/o), Corey Lynn Calter skirt (very old but similar), Zara heels (old but similar), KW sunglasses (c/o W Concept) |
I’ve owned this skirt since 2007. Its a-line shape and subtle stripe is classic enough that it will stand the test of time. Every season, I usually pair it with a new top to keep it current. Repurposing old favorites by pairing them with new pieces helps me keep my closet fresh; most importantly, it helps me avoid a closet full of trendy items that I only wear once.
How long do you keep items in your closet?
It's definitely a classic! I have a few pieces that I always end up keeping around for a while that I never imagine would stay season after season.

I wouldn't have guessed that was an old skirt. I tend to keep certain items for years and use the same "pair it with something new" trick.
I actually have a skirt I got for $5.00 at Urban Outfitters a few years back that I've worn more than skirts I've spent much more on. A good find that paid for itself annually 🙂

Cute summer outfit 🙂 I love tying my shirts in the front, and it looks especially good with a full skirt. I love restyling old pieces in my closet…it forces me to be creative and to stretch my imagination 🙂

If something is sentimental or I picture my daughter / granddaughter enjoying it I will hold on to (hoard) it! I always fantasized about what it would be like if I had a grandma who had done that haha
Love the idea of re-purposing an old piece. Great look.

Wonderful and Marvelous
Wow, that skirt was such a good buy for 2007! 🙂
You're right! That skirt is perfect! And I'm the same, I try to keep pieces in my closet as long as I can. Unfortunately most of them get worn too much and I have to get rid of them, haha…

Love this whole look – I have a similar skirt, but just purchased. I also enjoy re-styling old items. Brings out your creativity and it's exciting to make an item feel new again!

What a great skirt, I love how you've styled it here! I tend to keep items in my closet for longer than I should.
I have an Esprit red trench coat I bought in college and still wear it.

I will keep something indefinitely as long as it's a) in good condition, b) is a classic piece; ie, not too trendy, or c) is an investment piece (statement jacket/shoes).
Love this look, Anna! So fresh!
PS- I commented on your senior pic on twitter; yay c/o 2003! I have my reunion in August, and it's making me feel OLD. Oy. 🙂

I have a skirt just like this from Anthropologie that I bought for my first job interview out of college! I haven't worn it in years but have saved it and this post is making me want to bring it out again!
Super cute! I used to get rid of things fairly quickly but since I've seen so many styles come back around it's hard to get rid of anything!
