How to Wear an All White Outfit

So, how do you wear a monochromatic outfit?  All white can be challenging but find a top, pair it with a similarly colored bottom, et voila!  You’re doing it!  You’re rocking a chic look with minimal effort.  Ok, but seriously, my tips for going monochromatic  are really simple:

  1. Your separates don’t need to match perfectly.  I promise.  There’s something so effortless about an outfit, in fact, when they’re slightly off.  White and cream go great together, by the way.
  2. Choose different textures for your separates.  White jeans (see them styled here) and a light or similarly shaded, poplin top, for example–very chic.  These crepe-y cream shorts and a cotton ribbed sweater at what I’m working with here.  Unless you want the illusionary effect to be that you’re wearing one piece (e.g. dress, romper, jumpsuit), seek out those different textures to make your outfit sing.
  3. Know your audience.  I’m a mom and while I’ve tried to hold on to my personal style of the past, I know that wearing light colors around my kids can be challenging.  I don’t wear an all white outfit like this to take the kids out for the day.  Where I WILL wear this outfit is to a meeting, an event, or dinner with Eric.  (However, I will wear a casual white dress or white jeans when I’m tooling around with the kids.)
