My Favorite Neutral Combination
About 10 years ago, Eric bought me a LouisVuitton Neverfull bag in the Damier print; it was my go-to work back and I carried it constantly. I worked in finance and traveled a lot so I wore a lot of neutrals that were appropriate for a strict business casual dress code, but on travel days I often wore monochromatic looks that were no fuss like this (but not jeans–wool slacks, and usually not heels at the airport). I remember a chic woman who was probably in her 50s stopped me once at SFO saying she NEVER wore brown and black together but my outfit changed her mind. Isn’t it funny what fashion rules we hear once that we abide by for life? A lot of people shy away from wearing brown and black together but it may be my favorite neutral combination. Personally, I love how stark black looks with a soft, warm brown–especially camel (I wore it here with navy).
Are there any fashion ‘rules’ you abide by?
Love your shoes! I’ve been living in black ankle boots over Winter, can’t wait to get back into stilettos!

On days where I am stumped/too tired/not motivated to put together an outfit, I go with my tried and true combos:
– black and light blue
– black and camel
– navy and camel
… always finished with my favourite leopard flats. I always look appropriate for a meeting or just a casual day in the office.
Black and light blue is a combo I need to try! Thank you for the inspiration!
You’re welcome!
Think chambrays and sky blue. The punch of red you did with the black and camel would look great too.
A lady at my work yells at me every time I wear navy blue and black – I just don’t see the problem! My other faves are pale blue and grey, pale pink and navy, and all black with beige/camel x
