Classic Fall Looks (From Years Past)

The best part about documenting all my outfits for the past nine years (gulp) is that I can scroll through my phone for inspiration.  Fall looks are my favorite–there’s just so many good ones!  My favorite thing is when I see something while scrolling and think, “I forgot I had that!”  Whereas my least favorite occurrence is when I see myself wearing something cute only to remember that I donated it or sold it.  But it helps me remember the items I love and while I’m constantly trying to find new ways to wear old items (hence #shopyourclosetseries), I really like seeing what worked in the past, too.

Here are my favorite fall looks and what I love about them:

  1. Camel coat + hiking boots: add a chunky sweater and you’re set.
  2. An oversized rust-colored jacket worn with light jeans for an unexpected look (this outfit is circa 2015 and I still have that Zara coat!)
  3. Stripes + navy = always a good idea.  A pop of red ain’t bad, either.
  4. I LOVE this burgundy suede moto jacket from Veda; it’s from 2014 and I’m still in love…especially over a patterned dress.
  5. Plaid is so fall.  Just add a camel coat to keep it classic.
  6. Olive you.  Leather, too.

And I threw in some favorite fall looks, selfie editions, too.  You all seem to like these just as much as the pretty and styled photos that Melissa from Iron + Honey takes of me (we’ve been working together for years).  Sometimes a quick outfit selfie is all you need!

  1. I love a huge, chunky cardigan.  Add stripes and loafers and you’re eternally cozy.
  2. You all went nuts when I posted this pleated skirt with a Gucci belt two years ago–I still like wearing my belt up high like that!
  3. That J Crew sweater blazer is years old and still for sale!  Which means: not a trend.
  4. This outfit launched a love of Everlane wide-leg crops for me.  It’s one of my most pinned outfits on pinterest!
  5. Buffalo check for life!  I feel like it comes and goes in terms of popularity but it’s always such a cozy choice.
  6. Ok, you caught me–this isn’t fall–it’s last spring BUT it felt like fall on this day in London (seriously, it was ice cold and windy).
  • This is my favorite kind of posts – broad guidelines that breathe life to wardrobe staples. Cracked me up that I had laid out an identical outfit the night before this post went live; Who’s gonna stop me from elevating a plaid shirt with a city-sleek camel coat? Fashion juxtaposition at its best. Apparently I wasn’t the first to think of this combination. 😉

  • One of your fall looks (from a long time ago!) that I had found on pintrest and led me to your blog was the cognac leather jacket, striped top, mustard scarf, jeans and leopard shoes! Still loving your blog and style after so many years!

    • Yesssssss – I know exactly what you’re talking about. It was 2013 and I was about 12 weeks pregnant with Harry! Also, I left that mustard scarf on a flight home from London and am still not over it…loved it so much and have never found a good mustard replacement. XO

  • Love!
Are you going to do a future post about crop flares and booties?! And outfit ideas?
They are everywhere now and I love the look but I’d love some advise on how to wear with booties!
    Thanks!
