Investments (See Jane Keep Forever)

As a style blogger, it’s easy to get caught up in the trends of the moment.  Often, I’ll see what hot item is floating around twitter, tumblr or other bloggers’ wish lists and soon enough, I’ll be lusting after it, too.  I try not to not be an impulse shopper–but that’s not to say I haven’t snatched something up in the heat of the moment and worn it once, never to be seen again.  Bags, however, are something that I think long and hard about before buying.  Before I purchase a bag, I want to ensure that I will love it, 2, 5, and even 30 years down the road.  In fact, I often envision passing it down to my future daughter or niece; I want a bag that will withstand the sands of time.  There should be no question why these three bags are on my list of investment bags–ones that will last a lifetime.

Any bags that you consider longterm investments?

  1. I love having a piece that you know will never go out of style. I think bags and shoes are a great way to do that. After graduation I splurged on a pair of simple pump louboutins and I love that I can put them on to instantly polish an outfit. Love your bag picks too!

  2. I'm not sure if it's really the same thing because it's not even close to being in the same league as the Mulberry Alexa (e.g.) but I'm planning to invest in a Cambridge Satchel as my primary work bag – it's such a classic and professional and definitely more of an expensive bag than I would ordinarily allow myself.

  3. these bags are all definitely timeless. i one day hope to splurge on a nice Louis Vuitton or Prada, even one of these! Gorgeous purses. Have a good day Jane!!

  4. I couldn't agree more on this post! I will not be spending that amount of money on anything trendy and that won't last me a lifetime {Im sure my Louis speedy is over by now, but you could carry that to the day you die!) I saw this YSL on Sun, it is amaze!!! I love my YSL bag – my favorite!!!! I want this one!!!

  5. Love all 3 that you posted above (:

My favorites that I've "invested" in so far are the Tod's bauletto satchel and another huge tote that I travel with b/c it's so roomy. I love Derek Lam. I have a crossbody from his own line that I've been carrying all summer. I'm dying for the python one.

  6. I would die for a Chanel 2.55 in ivory, a Mulberry Bayswater or a Louis Vuitton in Daimier Azure. That YSL you chose is to die for as well! I love handbags!!!!

  7. Yes, I have a Chloe tote bag from the Spring 2007 collection, one of Phoebe's last collections (I think THE last actually) for the house. I love it dearly, more than any other bag. I've traded in my Balenciaga lariats, as they became too dated, for an Alexander Wang Marti backpack, but that's not an investment piece like my Chloe tote. It was totally worth the money.

  8. I run an online consignment store. I must say, it can be heartbreaking to sell my clients' bags for a fraction of the price they'd paid for. The only ones that truly hold their value would have to be Chanel and Hermes. Balenciaga too if it's their popular motorcycle bags. As for the IT bags, they depreciate faster than cars!

  9. Completely agree with everything you said. I graduated law school this year, and as a gift from my parents, and after long consideration (and hunting!) I bought a Celine purse 🙂 It is gorgeous brown, with a fun, neon yellow interior – ah perfection 🙂

On another note, I just came across your blog and am loving it! So glad I found it!
